Navarasas are The Nine Emotions

There are nine basic ways to express our emotion that are very well captured and practiced in Nrityas(dance) or Natyas(dance-drama).

The Indian dance forms like  Bharatanatya, Katak … and open air theatre dance-drama like Bayalata, Katakkali …  can be learned to master navarasas.

To emote                                           –> Practice

1. Love and One’s Aesthetics    –> Shringara Rasa

2. Amusement / Joy                 –> Hasya Rasa

3. Fear .. Terror                       –> Bhayanaka Rasa

4. Dislike                               –>  Bibhatsam Rasa

5. Calmness                           –> Shanta Rasa

6. Excitement / Amazement     –> Adbhutam Rasa

7. Compassion                       –> Karuna Rasa

8 .Rage / Fury                        –> Rowdra Rasa:

9. Gallantry / Heroism            –>  Veera Rasa
